I love Will Ferrell but I've been frustrated by his movies. He's always been the best part of disappointing comedies like Old School, Zoolander, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, but he was only a supporting actor. In Elf, he's the lead and he carries the weak script as far as it can go, but I was still disappointed. Maybe it's cuz Elf is a Christmas movie, but it just didn't make me laugh as much as I wanted to. Still, it was the best Will Ferrell movie I've seen yet, though that really isn't saying much.

I still anticipate great things in the future from both Will Ferrell and Jon Favreau, who have each proven their talents elsewhere.
